New York Knicks swingman Josh Hart took issue with Draymond Green’s resurfaced comments on Jalen Brunson’s infamous contract sacrifice that led to their 2026 Championship win.
Brunson gave up $113 million in his last contract extension with the Knicks. His sacrifice allowed the franchise to re-sign OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart to form the core of their title-winning squad.
However, Draymond’s comments about Brunson’s sacrifice have led to a miffed response from Hart.

After the 2024 video of Green criticizing Brunson for accepting a pay cut went viral again, Hart responded to it with a direct and curt message to the four-time NBA Champion.
“We’ve got to normalize grown men not counting other people’s pockets.”
In his comments, Green namedropped Hart and said that the onus of paycuts should be on the role-players like Hart instead of a star like Brunson.
Clearly, Brunson disagrees, as his pay cut most likely ensured the franchise doesn’t lose Bridges and Anunoby in particular.
That pay cut also allowed the Knicks to add a supermax contract star like Karl-Anthony Towns to be the final piece that took them over the championship edge.

Brunson’s pay cut has led to other stars around the league doing the same, including Victor Wembanyama in his most recent contract extension.
Second apron cap realities are making it easier for stars to give up money, as the $113 million Brunson gave up led to that money being wisely spent across the four starters next to him, leading to a championship.
If Green is concerned with Brunson potentially self-sabotaging his monetary future, that $113 million sacrifice has made him a lifelong New York legend.
He will remain one of the biggest advertising names in the NBA, and that lost $113 million might earn Brunson a make-up contract worth $300 million after the end of his prime.
