We have a couple of extensions needed here soon this off season that will eat a lot of that.
Jeez Monti is an unprepared boob.

Mack Wilson (the most important player on our defense), Zaven Collins, Baron Browning (our starting OLB), BJ Ojulari (the guy most likely to be out next starting OLB), and Froholdt (our second-best OL), are all pending free agents.

These are beyond Michael Wilson, Garrett Williams, and Dante Stills.

We’re entering a real 5-12 with ‘em, 5-12 without ‘em era.

Outside of Wilson, I would be alarmed if we signed any of the first group to multi year deals.

IMO, it's more of a sign that it's just not a roster worth investing in... which is also on Monti.

Bro. How does one actually prepare a boob? This is probably the reason why I can't have a long term relationship after my divorce.

Only in a self-fulfilling prophecy sense. It's super easy to extend players withough eating current year cap space--if a GM/owner are willing to work the cap. Claiming we have tons of cap space but it will be "eaten up" by extensions just means our leadership group sucks. But that's obvious.

I'm willing to work with you on an extension. Ill give you some mobility on your elbow then next year you'll get to at least feel your best until the next offer comes up

That's how it works. This has to be the worst post ever btw

You're special man. Especially the times where you can rise above everything and be special. It's Monday and my hydrocodone is kicking in too I sprained my ankle last week. I'm feeling special too.

Do a web search for an Urban Dictionary and the meaning of 'Raw Dog' or 'raw dog.' Here's the 'safe' definition and probably why this banter is allowed by the moderators.

Do the same search as a slang term:

All the comments after K9's post is banter around this slang meaning.

That's the bright side to extensions. It allows the team to put the cap hit where they want it.

In a position like today. Adding extensions that eat up much of the cap space we have right now can be a good thing.
There are not a lot of high dollar guys available right now to use that cap on. So extend some of our quality young players...then put a chunk of their guarantees into signing bonus and workout/roster bonus to be paid out now...
That allows us flexibility to sign guys next off season...at which point we can add void years to the back end if needed.
But riding into the season carrying $40mil just seems like someone doesn't want to spend the money. Because we ain't trading for Patrick Mahomes in October

Yes, I agree that NOW it makes sense, because Monti was ineffectual in FA. In the long term, when the decision was made to be miserly and not spend when the top talent was available, it became an easy excuse. It's a terrible gaming of the system that allows stingy owners to pretend like they're trying to be competitive when they really aren't. "See, we spent almost all that cap space!" Yes, by using it to retain talent either before you needed to or in a deal that could easily have been pushed over a number of years for the cap hit. That way, they don't have to try to add major talent via FA. They can claim they're trying when they really aren't.
