The Atlanta Falcons have hired former Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski as their next coach, per a team announcement Jan. 17, taking another one of the Tennessee Titans' top candidates for their vacancy off the market.
Stefanski is one of three candidates, along with Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who The Tennessean can report that the Titans intended to bring in for a second interview in the coming days. Stefanski initially interviewed with the Titans in-person last week, but was a sought-after commodity among the eight teams with coaching vacancies this cycle.
The Titans have conducted or will conduct initial interviews with 16 candidates so far in this search process. That list of candidates includes Nagy, Hafley and Stefanski as well as prominent names such as former coaches Mike McCarthy, Mike McDaniel, Jason Garrett and Brian Daboll as well as coordinators like Vance Joseph, Lou Anarumo, Jesse Minter and Steve Spagnuolo. The Titans are expected to conclude their first round of interviews on Jan. 18 by interviewing San Francisco defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and former Arizona coach Jonathan Gannon.
Stefanski coached Cleveland from 2020-25, winning the NFL's Coach of the Year award twice and leading the Browns to two playoff appearances with one victory. The Browns finished with losing records in 2024 and 2025, ultimately leading to his dismissal in January.
The Falcons become the season franchise to fill a coaching vacancy this offseason, joining the New York Giants who hired top candidate John Harbaugh. Other teams with vacancies include the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers.
