Kevin Stefanski and the Cleveland Browns have a major quarterback competition brewing. With five quarterbacks on the roster, including Shedeur Sanders, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Deshaun Watson, all of them will be vying for playing time.
Sanders is by far the most talked about quarterback in the Browns' room currently. He was taken in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft after a massive slide from being a projected first-round pick throughout a majority of the pre-draft process.
Fans have been wondering whether or not he has a chance to be the starter in Cleveland at some point this year.
Ahead of training camp and preseason action, Stefanski has opened up about where Sanders stands in the quarterback competition. He gave hope to those who want to see the rookie on the field this year.
ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler revealed more details about Sanders' current status.
“Despite Sanders being a fifth-round pick, Stefanski said he will get an opportunity to compete to be QB1 for a franchise that used four different passers last season and has started a league-high 40 different quarterbacks since returning to Cleveland in 1999," Fowler wrote.

Throughout his college career split between Jackson State and Colorado, Sanders put up numbers fitting of an NFL starting talent. He completed 70.1% of his pass attempts for 13,347 yards, 134 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions.
After making the decision to trade up for him in the fifth round, Browns general manager Andrew Berry spoke out about why the team decided to do so.
"We felt like it got to a point where he was probably mispriced relative to the draft," Berry said. "Really, the acquisition cost was pretty light, and it's a guy that we think can outproduce his draft slot."
Only time will tell, but it sure sounds like Cleveland thinks Sanders can be a starter and will be given every opportunity to prove himself capable of doing so this season.
