The Kentucky Wildcats were, at one point, the favorites to land European basketball recruit Nikola Kusturica. They even received an official prediction from 247Sports a few weeks ago. However, momentum began to swing away from the Wildcats, and on Thursday, he officially committed to the UCLA Bruins, per Travis Branham of 247Sports.

Kusturica is a very highly though of player who is still just 17 years old. Many experts think he will be a lottery pick in the NBA draft in a few years, but because of his age he'll have to play college basketball for at least two seasons before turning to the NBA.

Most recently, Kusturica led Serbia to the silver medal at the FIBA U17 World Cup. He averaged 24.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.3 steals per game, and had a massive 37 point performance against the United States.

Kentucky had an open roster spot that Kusturica could have filled, but it didn't work out for Mark Pope and his staff. Pope has stated that they may or may not fill it, and that he's happy with the squad the way it is. Good luck to Kusturica with the Bruins.
