As spring is set to turn into summer, the college baseball transfer portal has opened up and will shake up rosters around the country. That will inevitably include the Kentucky Wildcats, and on Wednesday, former starting outfielder Ryan Schwartz announced he would be leaving the program.
Schwartz had a solid freshman season in 2025, hitting .317 and slugging .500 in 23 games. He played his way into a starting spot in the outfield. His sophomore season didn't go as planned, though. He hit just .243 with 4 homeruns and 19 RBIs while his slugging dropped to .400. He eventually lost his starting spot and came off the bench.
Losing his starting spot likely played a major role in Schwartz's decision to transfer. He'll look to find a team where he is a starter, and it shouldn't take long. Despite his sophomore struggles, he's clearly a talented player with lots of upside.
As for Kentucky, they will likely be active in the portal once again, especially in the outfield where they are set to lose some key players. We will provide updates on any new additions, and we wish Schwartz the best of luck.
