Most fans considered the 2026 Kentucky Wildcats football roster complete with the start of the season just a month and a half away. However, Will Stein got a late addition to the team over the weekend with a commitment from junior college transfer Ahmir Smith, as announced by him on social media.

Smith is a 5'10", 200 lb running back out of South Carolina. As a prospect, he was rated three stars by 247Sports. He came in at No. 2,364 overall in their 2024 composite rankings, then committed to Northern Illinois.

After that season, Smith enrolled at Garden City Community College. There, he recorded 74 carries for 322 yards (4.4 yards per carry) and 5 touchdowns. He also had 14 catches for 183 yards and 3 more scores. Now, he's on the move again, and headed to Lexington.

This season, especially with him being such a late addition, Smith is likely to be down the depth chart. However, he has three years of eligibility remaining, and has the ability to become a part of the rotation. The Wildcats will be relying on C.J. Baxter and Jovantae Barnes primarily, with talented depth behind them. Getting the running game going will be important for Stein's offense, especially early on.

Smith is another solid addition to the room, and one that could pay big dividends down the line.
