As has become the norm for the Kentucky Wildcats baseball team, coach Nick Mingione has gone into the transfer portal and landed a solid group of players. On Thursday, they added another good piece to the class by getting a commitment from Lee Ellis, as announced by him on his Instagram account.

Ellis began his college career at South Carolina before transferring to Ohio State before the 2025 season. It was with the Buckeyes that he broke out, and was became a regular part of the lineup. He was there for two years, but entered the portal this offseason.

Last season, Ellis hit .254, but had a healthy .867 OPS. He hit 7 homeruns and drove in 32 runs while stealing a career-high 17 bases. His strikeout total spiked last year, but in prior seasons it was at an acceptable level.

Ellis will be in the mix at both middle infield positions, and has played both as a starter in the past. He joins an already highly thought-of transfer portal class with the Wildcats, joining some returning stars on what looks set to be a very good 2027 Kentucky team.
