PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers went 24-58 in the 2024-25 season in a year where they were expected to contend for a championship with all of the talent they possess. Unfortunately, everything that could go wrong has as they were hit with a variety of ailments from the jump.
Kelly Oubre Jr., who took steps forward as a leader and continuing to be a constant for this group on the floor, acknowledged that it was a tough season for everybody involved.
"I mean this game, what I've learned over my 10 years in this league is that, you know it's like it's like 50% physical, 50% mental," Oubre said. "So finding that balance between the two is what makes it very professional. No matter what sports you play, and for me and for us, this team, it's been a really hard teeter-totter throughout the whole year of balancing those."
The 2024-25 season was a challenge for the Sixers. It's tough to stay positive when it seems like everything is working against you. To their credit, they came to work every night and gave a terrific effort. Even down the stretch of the season when they were out of it, the Sixers played hard and that's something they can build off for the future.
That effort comes from a mental side of things and it was important for the Sixers to keep things moving in the right direction. The mental side of pro sports can be a big factor in whatever a team tries to do.
"Once your mind goes, your body goes as well, but at the end of the day, man, I think we’re all resilient," Oubre added. "We're all very strong, and I kept it together. We kept it together as best as we possibly could in the situation that we're in."
As the Sixers move forward, these mental challenges they went through will be helpful reference points for them in the future.
