As the Patriots go through the early days of training camp, one of the biggest storylines revolves around wide receiver Kayshon Boutte.

The fourth-year player is due for a new contract, triggering trade rumors and speculation about his future with the Pats. New England brought in A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs during the offseason, making Boutte the third wide receiver on the roster to begin the season.

While Boutte is a key part of the team, New England may not be interested in extending him. In the meantime, Boutte is trying to block out the noise this summer.

Kayshon Boutte responds to trade rumors​

Boutte spoke with reporters on Thursday at training camp, saying that he is only focused on getting better at practice each day.

"We all hear a lot of the stuff that's going on. I think my main focus is just that I'm here today," Boutte said." If I'm somewhere else next week, the week after, that is what it is."

Boutte also acknowledged the reality of being in a contract year, and he added that his impending free agency gives him plenty of motivation.

"Yeah. I mean, truth be told, I think if you was in a contract year at your reporting job, you'd kind of want that to be your best year," he said. "So whatever that looks like for me, we'll look at all the options and see what the best position is."

While Brown and Doubs are now on the roster, Boutte downplayed their potential impact on his production, noting that his approach will not change.

"There's competition everywhere. We got two great guys that came in this offseason," he added. "I just keep doing the same things I've been doing."

Kayshon Boutte contract​

Boutte is entering the final year of a four-year rookie contract, and he is set to hit unrestricted free agency next offseason. Boutte will make just $3.7 million during the 2026 season, but he could push for a significant raise in future negotiations if he posts solid numbers.

Boutte's status as a rental means the Patriots have to decide which option to take with the wide receiver. New England could re-sign him, let him hit free agency or pursue a trade in order to avoid losing him for nothing.

After a pretty nondescript rookie season, Boutte has been a solid contributor for New England over the past two seasons. Boutte has combined for 1,140 receiving yards and nine touchdowns since the start of the 2024 season, and he has averaged more than 13.5 yards per catch in each of the last two years.

Boutte was the Patriots' primary field-stretcher in 2025, as his 16.7 yards per reception was one of the highest marks in the league. While New England added Brown and Doubs in the offseason, there still should be room for Boutte to carve out a role if he remains on the roster.
