Los Angeles Sparks guard Kate Martin is adjusting well to life with her new team.
Earlier this month, Martin was waived by the Golden State Valkyries. It was largely considered a surprise move, and Martin, admittedly, was emotional about the end of her time in the Bay Area. However, she soon landed on her feet, signing a developmental contract with the Sparks.
Ahead of a matchup with Fever (and a reunion with her best friend, Caitlin Clark), Martin talked about her transition to Los Angeles, as she has now moved from a hotel into a more permanent setup.
"Settling in, feeling good. Weather's been lovely. So just adjusting to the L.A. life," Martin said.
"The team has welcomed me with open arms, and I feel very grateful for that. And honestly, it feels seamless. Kind of feels like I've been here for a while. I think that speaks to the great leadership and vets that are on this team."
Martin, who had been battling a quad injury before joining the Sparks, shared she is now healthy and is getting back into game shape.
"My role right now is to be the best developmental player I can possibly be. Get in extra workouts. Be a great teammate. Do whatever the team needs me to do. Be a great hype woman on the bench," Martin said.
"We're still learning kind of what the development role kind of entails, but as of now, it's to be where my feet are, buy in to being an L.A. Spark, and give it all I got.
