LAWRENCE (KSNT) — Kansas track and field associate head coach (vertical jumps) coach Tom Hays joins this week’s edition of K-Nation.
Hays is in his 21st season with the Jayhawks, an alumni of the program who competed for Kansas in the mid-80s.
Hays’ athletes have seen plenty of success in the indoor season and outdoor seasons, with first and second place finishes for Anthony Meacham and Ashton Barkdull at Big 12 Indoor Championships, along with a third-place finish for Mason Meinershagen. Barkdull would then go on to win the Indoor National Championship with a jump of 5.80 meters.
Meacham and Barkdull would repeat as No. 1 and 2 at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, with Madison Snody placing third on the women’s side. At Outdoor National Championships, Meacham would pick up a podium with a third-place jump of 5.70 meters.
“It [the program] was good before I got here, it’ll be good after I leave,” Hays told 27 Sports. “All we can do is make sure the kids coming through the door are good kids, that like to compete, and we have a system that’s pretty good.”
You can watch the interview above or on tonight’s episode of K-Nation.
