The Kansas City Royals were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Friday, losing 5-3. Despite the defeat, Jac Caglianone -- who is participating in the MLB Home Run Derby on Monday -- proved he is ready for the event with another long ball. Caglianone continues to make an impact despite the team's overall struggles.

The outfielder has now played in 88 games so far this season. Caglianone has recorded a .260 batting average to go along with a .789 OPS and 15 home runs. Caglianone's power from the left side of the plate is undeniable, and he should have an opportunity to make things interesting in his first career Home Run Derby.

The 23-year-old is hitting the ball hard 57.5 percent of the time this year. Meanwhile, his fly ball rate is at 24.2 percent. He certainly has a swing that should play well in Philadelphia on Monday.

Overall, Caglianone has been inconsistent at times, but his ceiling is high. His 30 percent strikeout rate is not ideal, but this is a player who has a swing built for long balls as opposed to soft contact and limiting strikeouts. When Caglianone connects with the baseball, it often goes a long way.

His hard-hit percentage is in the 98th percentile in MLB. Meanwhile, Caglianone is in the 96th percentile in average exit velocity, 97th percentile in bat speed and 93rd percentile in barrel percentage.

Jac Caglianone is an emerging star, and Royals fans will be excited to see him participate in the Home Run Derby on Monday.

Royals' Woes Continue Despite Another Jac Caglianone Home Run

Caglianone may have had another good game, but the team overall continued to struggle. They did record nine hits, but Kansas City was only able to score three total runs. The Royals' offense has endured an up and down season.

The good news is that the future is bright.

Bobby Witt Jr. is still one of the best players in the game. Maikel Garcia is an All-Star caliber player. Vinnie Pasquantino features tremendous power from the left side of the plate. Carter Jensen is a promising young catcher. And, as mentioned, Caglianone is an emerging star. Of course, Salvador Perez is a great leader to have as a veteran.

The Royals will attempt to end the first half of the season strong this weekend following their defeat on Friday against the Orioles. Perhaps Jac Caglianone will hit another home run or two before the Home Run Derby.
