Kane & Co. win final World Cup warm-up

The England national team, led by captain Harry Kane, have won their final warm-up game ahead of the World Cup in Mexico, the USA and Canada. On the eve of the tournament, the Three Lions celebrated a comfortable 3-0 (1-0) victory over Costa Rica, a result that could easily have been even more emphatic.

Declan Rice (9') put England ahead early on in Orlando (USA). After the break, Anthony Gordon (68') doubled the lead from the spot, as Kane had been substituted just beforehand, before Ollie Watkins (87') wrapped up the win just ahead of full-time.

Next Wednesday, 17 June (10:00 CEST), England play their opening World Cup match against Croatia. Their other group opponents are Ghana (23 June) and Panama (27 June).

No goals in Senegal's final warm-up game

Senegal had already played their final warm-up match ahead of the World Cup in the early hours of Wednesday. However, the West Africans were held to a goalless draw by Saudi Arabia in San Antonio (USA). Nicolas Jackson came off the bench in the 62nd minute and was sent off just over 20 minutes later (84') after being shown a second yellow card for a foul. The sending-off will have no impact on the World Cup, which starts today, for the forward, whose loan spell at FC Bayern ends on 30 June. FCB's Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, by contrast, did not feature for Senegal.

Senegal kick off their World Cup proper next Tuesday with a game against France. They'll also face Norway (23 June) and Iraq (26 June) in the group stage.
