Former Kamehameha football coach David Stant, who led the Warriors to their last state championship in 2009, is taking over the same position at Kahuku, the school announced today.
Stant replaces Nihoa Pule, who served as the interim head coach for the Red Raiders this past season.
“Coach Stant is fully vested in building a first-class program that prioritizes the development of championship people. His mission is to create a culture of excellence where academic accountability, discipline, and character are the foundation, ” Kahuku High School officials said in a news release.
A Kahuku alum, Stant went 42-22-1 in six seasons at Kamehameha from 2007 to 2012.
The Red Raiders went 8-4 this year under Pule, who took over after Sterling Carvalho was let go abruptly by the school in April.
Kahuku won its fifth OIA Open Division title in the past six seasons in November but lost in its opening game of the state tournament against Campbell, ending a streak of five straight appearances in the state final with three state championships.
