Luke Donald announced on Wednesday, 4 March, that he will remain captain of the European Ryder Cup team.

Donald led Europe to back-to-back successes in Rome three years ago and in New York last September.

The Englishman has now agreed to stay for another Ryder Cup cycle, attempting to become the first captain to win three straight.

European players Justin Rose and Tyrrell Hatton waited less than an hour to share their reactions to the announcement.

Luke Donald announced his decision to remain Europe’s Ryder Cup captain with the following statement: “Truly a privilege to go again.

“With Adare Manor hosting and the 100th Anniversary of the Ryder Cup, it is going to be a very special week. Let’s go!”

Justin Rose’s reaction showcased his desire to play on Donald’s team at Adare Manor next year.

He commented, “Reporting for duty, Captain Luke Donald. Congratulations.”

Meanwhile, Tyrrell Hatton retweeted Donald’s post with the fistpump and flexed muscle emojis, as well as the European flag.

Given that Donald valued continuity in his last team selection, both Rose and Hatton are likely to make his 12-man squads in 2027.

So, assuming Europe retain the cup at Adare Manor, the decision-makers may ask Donald to stay for a fourth term.

However, if this is Donald’s last, Edoardo Molinari would be the most likely replacement, as he has been a vice captain at the last two Ryder Cups.
