Sean Coleman has been hired as Judson's new head boys basketball coach, Judson athletic coordinator and head football coach Vernon Hughes announced Friday afternoon.
Coleman played college basketball at Tulsa, Blinn College and Houston. He helped the Cougars secure an NCAA Tournament berth and Conference USA title in 2010. Coleman was a starter in Houston's NCAA Tournament game against Maryland. After college, he played professionally in Japan and Mexico before starting his coaching career.
Coleman has coaching experience at the college and high school levels. He was previously on staff at Ranger College and Menlo College. He was also an assistant at Port Arthur Memorial in the Beaumont area, where he helped the Titans reach the regional semifinals in the 2022-23 school year.
Coleman played high school basketball at Westbury Christian in Houston, where he won three TAPPS state championships.
Coleman replaces Noe Cantu, who led the Rockets to the UIL Class 6A Division II regional finals last season. Cantu left Judson for Victoria West after three seasons and previously led Cole to a state championship in 2021, the most recent UIL boys basketball state title for a San Antonio area school.
Judson went 31-7 last season, the Rockets' first 30-win season since the 2019-20 school year.
