Brandon boys basketball didn't look far for its next head coach.
Brandon Ron Davis was hired as the Bulldogs' new coach on July 27. He replaces Frederick Barnes, who served as Brandon's coach for the past 22 years.
"I’m excited to take over this program that coach Barnes has built and laid the foundation for the past 20-plus years," Davis told the Clarion Ledger. "My goal is to take the program to the next level while continuing to inspire, teach and develop these young men on and off the court."
Davis, 30, began his coaching career as an assistant at West Jones in 2018. He then had assistant stints with Warren Central girls for one season and has spent the last three years at Brandon with the boys team.
The Edwards, Mississippi native was a high school star at Raymond, graduating in 2014. Davis then played college basketball at Itawamba College (2014-2016) and Belhaven (2016-2018).
Brandon ended the 2025-26 season with a 16-14 record and fell to Gulfport in the first round of the MHSAA 7A playoffs. During the 2024-25 year, the Bulldogs reached the 7A semifinals and appeared at the Mississippi Coliseum but lost to Madison Central.
