Josh Sweat trade rumors now involve Cowboys, Patriots originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

A big deal was made Wednesday by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that, contrary to some rumors swirling, Josh Sweat wasn't being looked at as a trade candidate by his team, the Arizona Cardinals.

And then on Thursday, ESPN's Dan Graziano reported that Sweat would make sense as someone who gets traded by the NFL trade deadline at the latest.

The disconnect likely comes down to the fact that Sweat is unhappy, but the Cards would still have to get on board with moving him.

"Sweat is staying away from Arizona's offseason program and letting it be known he's not happy there," Graziano writes. "An acquiring team would take on a guaranteed $17 million in 2027 compensation for Sweat, and none of the remaining years or money on his contract is guaranteed after that. That's a good deal for a player such as Sweat and should result in decent outside interest."

Sweat could garner interest from the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots, according to Graziano.

"The Cardinals would take on about $22 million in dead money ($5.505 million this year, $16.515 million next year) if they dealt him, which isn't a ton in today's market but means the acquiring team would probably have to make it worth their while with the compensation," Graziano writes. "New England and Dallas would make a lot of sense if Sweat were to be available."

Sweat is coming off a career-high 12 sacks in his first season in the desert.

Before that, he had played 104 games for the Philadelphia Eagles and won a Super Bowl ring there.

Earlier speculation included the Eagles and Packers in rumors, but Graziano doesn't mention those teams.

It definitely seems like the Cardinals have to make up their minds about what to do with Sweat before any of the rest of the speculation can really matter, anyway.
