The NBA has just announced the schedule for the opening night of the 2026-27 season, with three blockbuster games.
The New York Knicks, who won the title earlier this year, will host the Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden.
The Oklahoma City Thunder will return to San Antonio for a repeat of the 2026 Western Conference Finals.
And the Boston Celtics, with Paul George replacing Jaylen Brown, will face Eastern Conference rivals, the Detroit Pistons.
Knicks player Josh Hart has already reacted to the NBA’s highly-anticipated announcement on social media.

Josh Hart reacts to LeBron James and the 76ers coming to Madison Square Garden
As the defending champions, the New York Knicks were always likely to play at Madison Square Garden on the opening night.
A Finals rematch with the San Antonio Spurs or a clash with the Celtics would have been exciting, but there was a clear-cut favourite.
Everyone wants to see LeBron James and Jaylen Brown’s debut with the 76ers, so why not stage it under the bright lights of MSG?
Therefore, one can only assume that Josh Hart’s response to the Knicks vs 76ers opening-night matchup was sarcastic.
“Can’t lie. I’m extremely shocked this is the slate,” Hart responded to Shams Charania’s report on the NBA schedule.
No one would be surprised if the Knicks welcoming the 76ers to MSG became one of the most-watched regular-season games ever.
