José Canale, welcome to the history books.

Paraguay stunned Germany in a thrilling match, pulling off a massive upset to advance to the round of 16 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It wasn't easy and required more than the allotted 90 minutes as both sides traded blows before Canale delivered the knockout punch in a penalty shootout.

And yet, it almost didn't come to that.

Paraguay could've stolen the win before Canale's involvement, but Germany's keeper, Manuel Neuer, made a key save to extend the shootout. After a miss from Jonathan Tah, the Paraguay defender stepped up to the spot – and he didn't miss.

Here's what to know about one of Paraguay's heroes who extended the team's stay in the World Cup.
