The Golden State Warriors stole Game 1 of their second-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves on the road. But on Thursday night, the Timberwolves made sure they wouldn't lose both home games, dominating from start to finish to even the series.
Minnesota took control early and led 56-39 at halftime. They never looked back, cruising to a 117-93 victory. With the series now tied, the teams will be heading to San Francisco for Game 3 on Saturday.
Despite the lopsided loss, there were a few bright spots for Golden State. Star guard Steph Curry was sidelined with a hamstring injury, so head coach Steve Kerr needed others to step up. That remains the case until Curry returns to the lineup.
One player who rose to the occasion was forward Jonathan Kuminga. The 6-foot-7 third-year player led the team with 18 points. After the game, Kuminga admitted he had struggled with confidence earlier this season, including during this playoff run.
“I feel like the confidence just came back.”
Kuminga played 26 minutes in the loss, matching his highest total this postseason. The last time he hit that mark was against the Houston Rockets on April 24, where he scored 11 points.
In Game 2, the 22-year-old added five rebounds and shot an efficient 8-for-11 from the field.

Originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kuminga came to the United States to pursue basketball. He began at Huntington Prep and later transferred to finish his high school career at The Patrick School in Hillside, New Jersey.
Kuminga was selected seventh overall by the Warriors in the 2021 NBA Draft.
This season, he appeared in just 47 games and averaged 15.3 points. Last year, he averaged 16.1. He started only 10 games during the regular season.
This marks Kuminga’s third postseason appearance with Golden State. As a rookie, he started three playoff games and played in 16 overall, averaging 5.2 points in just under nine minutes per game.
Game 3 is set for Saturday night at Chase Center in San Francisco. Curry has already been ruled out for both Game 3 and Game 4. A return for Game 5 hasn’t been ruled out, but there’s no official timetable yet.
