With Duke's second-round game coming up on Saturday against TCU, the status of Blue Devils' big man Patrick Ngongba is the topic of discussion for most. The 6-foot-11 center has been out since Duke' victory over NC State on Feb. 2 due to a foot injury, and with Jon Scheyer's squad looking to make a deep run, having him in the lineup would be a valuable commodity.
Scheyer gave an update on his starting center on Friday after the Blue Devils' practiced.
"I'm hopeful he's going to be available for tomorrow," Scheyer said. "We'll see what he can do in practice today, and if all goes well... I know he was itching to play yesterday. Now, he hasn't done what he needs to do in order to play. But if everything goes well, we'll see him back in there."
Before his injury, Ngongba averaged 10.7 points and 6.0 rebounds for the Blue Devils, and his presence in the middle has been missed, with Cameron Boozer having to play at the 5 position at times. His absence also has hurt Duke's depth, as starting point guard Caleb Foster has been out since the Blue Devil's regular-season finale against North Carolina.
