Jomboy’s Joez Breaks Down Infamous 2024 World Series Mookie Betts Incident With DMAC

With the Los Angeles Dodgers getting ready to take on the New York Yankees in NYC for the first time since the 2024 World Series, it’s only natural to reminisce about the Dodgers’ gentleman’s sweep of the Bronx Bombers.

With much of the sports world at Fanatics Fest in New York City, Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain partnered up with noted Yankees fan Joez McFly of Jomboy Media to talk all things baseball and NY vs. LA.

Oct 29, 2024; Bronx, New York, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts (50) makes a catch in foul terriotory against the New York Yankees in the first inning during game four of the 2024 MLB World Series at Yankee Stadium.

Naturally, one of the more contentious moments of that Fall Classic was a topic of discussion.

Fan interference for the ages​

When mentioning the Dodgers’ and Yankees’ shared history, DMAC brought up the infamous altercation between Mookie Betts — then an outfielder, now a shortstop — and the Yankees fans who grabbed Betts’ glove after he caught a foul ball for an out.

One of those fans then pried the ball out of Betts’ glove.

The incident resulted in a call of fan interference, plus the ban of that fan from all MLB ballparks.

“Mookie Betts is going to be playing shortstop, so your fans won’t get to try to injure him and hurt his wrist in right field,” DMAC said. “What was up with that dude? Joez, I’m still not over Yankees fans trying to injure our guy Mookie Betts. What happened to that fan, dude?”

Joez had jokes, noting that “it’s been a long time since we won, man.”

He added that despite Yankee Stadium being a “raucous” atmosphere for this series, he doesn’t expect Betts to find his way into the bleachers again.

Despite Betts playing for the Dodgers, Joez noted that he doesn’t want to see the star hurt.

“I actually like Mookie Betts a lot,” he said. “I’m really happy he’s a Dodger and not a Red Sock. Biggest mistake they ever made. Well, Babe Ruth exists or did exist, but Mookie Betts is the second one.”

And as for DMAC’s question on what happened to that Yankees fan, he greatly regrets what he did, telling Brendan Kuty of The Athletic that it’s had a terrible impact on him and his family.
