If the Cincinnati Bengals get active in NFL free agency again, it figures to occur at linebacker.
That is arguably the biggest need left on the roster exiting the NFL draft and heading into OTAs. Unless, of course, coaches aren’t happy with how things shape up at slot corner.
Regardless, there are some other names near the top of the free-agent market who could always interest the Bengals across a variety of positions that could use better depth.
Here’s a quick glance.
Is the bridge burnt? Maybe, but the former Bengals first-round pick is still looking great in pass block win rate (92.4 percent) deep into his career. It would be hard to complain about the Bengals getting better depth behind Dalton Risner and Dylan Fairchild while Brian Parker develops.
DeAndre Hopkins joining the Bengals keeps getting hyped. He caught passes from Joe Burrow at the flag football tournament recently. Plus, he’s openly talked about joining the Bengals. They could use some competition for that third slot with Andrei Iosivas if the price is right.
Fans might be tired of hearing about Wagner now. But he’s the perfect fit as a mentor to prospects like Demetrius Knight and exactly what the Bengals have openly talked about adding. He has to want to play reduced snaps, though. Wagner’s 9.5 tackles per game (sixth overall) last year say he still wants to be on the field often.
Burrow’s friend is a super obvious connection to make. Bosa will turn 31 in July, but he just enjoyed his first double-digit-game-started attendance sheet since 2021 last year in Buffalo. He only had five sacks, but his rotational upside is hard to deny. The Bengals have Boye Mafe and a handful of prospects they want to develop on the fly next year, but there’s really no such thing as too many good pass rushers on a roster.
