  • JJ Watt slammed MLS team Real Salt Lake after they failed to mention his soccer star wife Kealia Watt in a social media post
  • “Could probably be worth a mention, but idk,” the retired NFL star wrote after naming some of the accolades his wife accomplished in Utah
  • The couple were at the match to support Burnley F.C., the British club they became minority investors in in May 2023

JJ Watt called out a Major League Soccer team after they didn’t include a mention of his soccer star wife Kealia.

JJ, 37, and Kealia, 34, brought their son Koa to support Burnley F.C. — the British soccer club they became minority owners of in 2023 — in their exhibition match against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, July 15.

Because Burnley plays in the EFL Championship, the team traveled to Sandy, Utah to take on Real Salt Lake, and the MLS team seemed excited to host the former NFL star and his family. “Welcome to the Riot, @JJWatt and fam ,” Real Salt Lake wrote on X next to a photo of JJ, Kealia and Koa walking out from the tunnel.

JJ was not pleased with the erasure of Kealia, though. He quoted the post on X and slammed the team for not mentioning Kealia, a former star for the North Carolina Tar Heels and local hometown hero in Draper, Utah.

“The woman in the photo grew up literally down the road, won 4 Utah state championships (1 in this exact stadium), Gatorade Player of the Year twice, National Player of the Year, scored the fastest first goal in USWNT history…,” JJ wrote.

“Could probably be worth a mention, but idk,” he added.

One of his followers replied to JJ noting that he “also omitted her name” in his post, to which he replied with a link to his post from earlier in the day. “Showing Koa where mom won her 4th straight state championship. (7:30pm kickoff was a little late for Niko),” his earlier post read alongside photos of the family on the field.

The Watts invested in Burnley in May 2023. At the time, the couple said, “When you invest in a club that’s been around since 1882, you must have great respect for its history and tradition. We understand that not only are we investing in the squad and manager, we’re investing in the town and its people. We take that responsibility very seriously and intend to work hard in earning their trust and support.”

JJ and Kealia added, “We have such great respect for what has been built here by Alan, Vincent and the entire organisation and are looking forward to working with them. We believe that Burnley is a special club with incredible supporters and we want to help continue to elevate its global profile on its return to the Premier League.”

Burnley was relegated from the Premiere League in April, according to ESPN.

On Wednesday, JJ told local outlet KSL, “I always knew after I was done playing that I wanted to get into ownership,” adding, “This was a natural step. Being here, with [Kealia], in this stadium, is pretty surreal.”
