Given his relationship with former Cincinnati Bearcats coach Wes Miller, it's not surprising that Jizzle James will not return to play for new UC coach Jerrod Calhoun.
ESPN's Jeff Borzello reported the April 8 move, which UC confirmed.
Miller had recruited James out of Orlando as the point guard of the future and James played three seasons for the Bearcats. The past season was shortened somewhat as James didn't rejoin the team until December after being on the sidelines resolving "personal issues" that had separated him from the 2025-26 team in August.
James was spotted at a UC game Dec. 1 vs. Tarleton State, then accompanied the team to Atlanta Dec. 13 when they faced Georgia. James sat on the bench in street clothes, but made his season debut Dec. 17 vs. Alabama State, scoring 16 points off the bench.
James was back in the starting lineup Dec. 29 against Lipscomb and stayed there for the remaining 21 games. He finished the season averaging 10.9 points per game. James shot 44% from the field and led the Bearcats in 3-point shooting at 44%, while hitting 77% of his free throws.
His top game was a 24-point outing at Kansas State when he made 6-of-8 treys. He also had 18 points in the win over BYU and 18 in the home loss to West Virginia. James averaged 12.9 points as a sophomore, but shot just 28% from the arc, so he improved considerably as a junior. He averaged 8.8 points per game as a freshman, mainly coming off the bench. He didn't start in his first season until late in the NIT when Day Day Thomas was injured.
