Jim Cornette is calling out David Otunga for claiming The Great Khali accidentally committed murder in OVW.

Former WWE Tag Team Champion David Otunga recently appeared on TMZ’s Inside The Ring podcast. During the interview, Otunga revealed he refused to take Khali’s double-handed chokeslam finisher. Noting that the move allegedly killed a person in OVW.

“Khali had another finisher, which was like this two-handed chokeslam. Now, I don’t know if you guys know this, but he killed somebody with that in OVW by accident. I was well aware of that,” Otunga said. [H/T: SEScoops]

Otunga’s comment caught Jim Cornette’s attention. Cornette served as OVW’s co-owner, head booker, and trainer for approximately six years — a period when Ohio Valley Wrestling operated as WWE’s developmental territory.

Taking to social media, Cornette fired back at Otunga’s claims about The Great Khali accidentally killing someone at OVW. He also took the opportunity to call out TMZ for airing Otunga’s comments without fact-checking.

“Wrong wrestling school by about 2300 miles, *******. Nobody was ever killed, paralyzed, or allowed to dive off balconies in OVW, and the Great Khali nor any other lesser Khali ever attended OVW. @TMZ needs to factcheck their programming,” Cornette wrote.

The truth behind The Great Khali’s ill-fated training

Jim Cornette referenced a wrestling school in his promo-style response to David Otunga. Reports do suggest that The Great Khali was involved in an accident that cost a fellow trainee his life back in 2001.

The incident occurred at All Pro Wrestling’s boot camp on May 28, 2001, when Khali (real name Dalip Singh) and fellow APW trainee Brian Ong were practicing wrestling moves. During the session, Ong took a spinebuster from Khali but made the mistake of grabbing Khali’s shirt, causing him to land on his tailbone before his head violently snapped against the mat.

Ong collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he tragically passed away. His family later successfully sued APW for failing to care for the young prospect despite his history of concussions. As for The Great Khali, he continued his training after the tragedy and eventually signed with WWE, where he went on to have a Hall of Fame career.
