TOPEKA (KSNT) — JHX Hoops is moving on.
The Kansas TBT alumni team defeated the Aftershocks, Wichita State’s alumni team, 64-59 at Koch Arena on Monday night.
The ‘Hawks built a small lead early, putting up a 8-2 lead within the first few minutes of the game.
Wichita State’s alums would slow Kansas’ momentum down, making things 16-15 at the end of the first.
Tempers flared before the end of the half when 11 total players were ejected after a fight broke out. Each team had just six players to play out the remaining 2:46 of the frame.
For JHX Hoops, the ejected players included Mario Chalmers, Jamari Taylor, Kevin Young, Tra-Deon Hollins and Carlton Bragg Jr.
The Aftershocks outscored JHX Hoops 12-9 in the second quarter, leading 27-25.
The Jayhawks would retake the lead in the third at 48-44, outscoring Wichita State by five.
A shortened fourth quarter would see the Shockers trail by just one point, 56-55, heading into the Elam Ending.
A target score of 64 was set.
It was a triple crown of game winners for Frank Mason III, who hit two consecutive three’s, the latter winning the game, and advancing JHX Hoops to the alumni finals.
Zeke Mayo led the Kansas alums with an explosive 25 points, going 10 of 20 from the floor.
Washburn’s Jacob Hanna followed suit with 15 points, and Mason rounded out the top three scorers with 13 points.
JHX Hoops will head out to Lexington to take on ‘La Familia’, the Kentucky alumni team. Tipoff on Wednesday night is set for 6 p.m.
