Jets head coach Aaron Glenn provided some updates prior to Thursday’s OTA’s…
Kenyon Sadiq will be sidelined during Thursday’s practice session after undergoing a minor hernia procedure.
Glenn says that the Jets were aware of the injury, which the 21-year-old dealt with throughout his final year of college and rookie minicamp.
While Sadiq will have to miss some time in the early going, he is expected to be back and ready to go by the time training camp rolls around.
The playmaker will likely be used as a versatile piece for Gang Green’s offense with Mason Taylor and Jeremy Ruckert also in a crowded tight end room.
He showcased his potential last year with Oregon, hauling in 51 receptions for 560 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Jets weren’t too concerned Garrett Wilson’s injury would carryover into this season, but the star receiver is already back to 100 percent.
“He looks really good,” Glenn said. “He’s typical Garrett, so that doesn’t surprise me how he’s going out there and operating -- he’s getting all of the reps.”
Wilson, of course, was already making good progress in his recovery from a knee sprain when the Jets decided it would be best to shut things down.
He finished the year with 36 receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns.
Officially back fully healthy, the 25-year-old will look to return to form catching passes from new QB Geno Smith.

Speaking of Smith, Glenn has been impressed with the presence and leadership the veteran gunslinger has already brought to the huddle for this offense.
“When you watch him, you’ll see he commands the huddle very well,” the head coach said. “He makes sure that everybody knows exactly what’s going on as far as the play-call.
“Once he breaks the huddle he makes sure everybody explodes out of it and gets lined up, and his ability to see what’s going on and trying to make the protection calls, he’s very commanding and you can see that.”
The 36-year-old is coming off a down season with the 2-13 Raiders, but he’s looking to provide an upgrade to a QB room that’s been shaky the past few years.
Glenn said that it’s currently an open competition for the QB2 spot.
Veteran Bailey Zappe took the second-team reps on Wednesday, but the team isn’t ready to commit to a specific player for that spot to open the season.
Brady Cook and rookie Cade Klubnik will also be the mix.
“Obviously Geno is our one,” he emphasized. “Bailey he was our two to start out yesterday, but that can change as we go through these practices.”
Being a basketball fan, Glenn was asked about the success the Knicks have been having during their incredible postseason run.
New York, of course, is awaiting their first NBA Finals since 1999.
“It’s hard not to notice,” he said. “I’ll tell you what, that is a gritty, gritty team and it’s hard to be a gritty team without gritty players -- it all starts with the point guard [Jalen Brunson].
“You can tell that the leadership, the fight, everybody follows that -- it’s easy to follow that, and he’s a guy that you can really see the influence he has, and it’s not only verbal, it’s about what he does and how he operates,” Glenn continued.
"I’m puling for those guys, I really am, because they play their ass off -- it’s fun to watch and it’s good to see."

How bout them Knicks?!
