The anticipation is building for fans on both coasts to see what Kenyon Sadiq will do in his rookie season in the NFL. A fan favorite with the Oregon Ducks and a recent first-round pick by the New York Jets, there are plenty of eyes watching the top tight end in the 2026 NFL Draft in his debut season as a pro.
However, the start of Sadiq's career with the Jets has hit a bump in the road. The former Oregon star underwent a minor hernia procedure, according to Jets head coach Aaron Glenn. The setback is expected to keep Sadiq out of action for the Jets OTAs, which began this week. Glenn said he expects Sadiq to return to the field for training camp in July.
When Glenn announced the news in a press conference, he noted that the Jets knew about the hernia issue with Sadiq before drafting him in April. It may have been an issue that persisted during Sadiq's final season in Eugene, which he finished with 51 catches for 560 yards and eight touchdowns.
"[Sadiq] had a minor procedure, and we knew about it going into his last year of college," Glenn said. "He dealt with it during rookie minicamp, and we wanted to make sure we get it done right after rookie minicamp so he'll be ready to go during training camp."
Sadiq was the No. 16 overall pick by the Jets in the most recent draft after earning second-team All-American honors with the Ducks. He was also the first Duck ever to be named a finalist for the John Mackey Award, which is annually presented to the nation's top tight end.
