There's no doubt that New York Jets running back Breece Hall will be a focal point of the offense in 2026.
The Jets franchise tagged Hall earlier this offseason before agreeing to a three-year, $43.5 million extension that places him among the highest-paid players at his position. While he'll be a workhorse, Frank Reich's offense also needs contributions from backup running back Braelon Allen.
The belief heading into the 2025 campaign was that Hall and Allen would form a one-two punch in Aaron Glenn's backfield. Injury quickly derailed that possibility. Allen suffered an MCL injury against the Miami Dolphins in Week 4 and spent the rest of the season on IR.
Allen rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown in those four appearances. The former Wisconsin standout was averaging an effective 4.2 yards per carry. Allen lost a fumble though, so it was disappointing to see lackluster ball security in such a small sample size.
Allen is healthy heading into training camp. Though Hall has secured his long-term future with the offense, Coach Reich's unit could still use an impactful change-of-pace back, especially in short-yardage and goal-to-go situations. Allen should receive an opportunity to leave his mark on the offense in 2026.
