The New York Jets might not be a Super Bowl or playoff contender just yet, but that doesn't mean that they haven't been linked to some interesting players in the free agent and trade markets.

While they've made a lot of free agent additions and just recently traded for Geno Smith, the biggest possible deal they've been associated with is a potential trade for Brian Tomas Jr. from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

However, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter on The Pat McAfee Show, the Jets got some bad news on a possible deal for Thomas. The Jaguars are reportedly not interested in trading the wide receiver this offseason, and the Jets aren't likely to bring the young WR in.

"I've been told that the Jaguars are not interested in trading him; they've denied it repeatedly," Schefter said. "Every indication that I've gotten back is that the Jaguars have no interest in moving on from Brian Thomas despite all of the speculation that's out there."

The Jets being linked to Thomas makes a lot of sense. He's heading into just his third season in the NFL, and with a need at wide receiver, the Jets could realistically land him and keep him for the next three years at a reasonable price.

While the Jets might not be a contender right now, in the next three years, they should, in theory, be able to turn things around to contend for a playoff spot.

But, while this trade for the Jets would make sense, and there have been rumors about Thomas being available, this Schefter report is shutting those rumors down.

The Jaguars don't have any intention of trading away their young wide receiver, even after a rough 2025 season in which he struggled a lot compared to his rookie year.

With this report, the Jets will need to focus on their wide receiver addition this offseason in a different trade market, the 2026 NFL Draft, or in free agency.

But, at least for now, it doesn't look like Brian Thomas Jr. will be leaving the Jaguars for the Jets, or any team, anytime soon, based on this report from Schefter.
