The New York Jets need a starting quarterback of the future. The team reunited with veteran signal caller Geno Smith to be their starter in 2026. Smith is a short-term solution acquired to be a placeholder until the Jets find their next franchise quarterback.
The Jets aren't going to draft a quarterback at No. 2 overall during the 2026 NFL draft.
Unfortunately, there isn't one worth taking that high. But the Jets own eight total selections, including Nos. 16, 33, and 44, and current indications are they're going to draft a quarterback at some point.
The Jets recently had a private dinner and workout with Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson. That occurrence was well documented. But Simpson isn't the only quarterback prospect who has spent significant time with the Jets lately.
The Jets also had dinner with Miami quarterback Carson Beck prior to his pro day, according to Rich Cimini. They worked out Penn State's Drew Allar at the team facility, and LSU's Garrett Nussmeier recently told the NFL Network that the Jets are scheduling a private in-person visit with him. UConn QB Joe Fagnano has also caught their attention, Cimini reports.
Simpson may be in consideration for the Jets with the 16th selection. If he's not a first-round pick, the Jets own the opening selection of the second round (No. 33). Beck, Nussmeier, and Allar are expected to be drafted between the third and fifth rounds.
The Jets are analyzing just about every single quarterback opportunity in the 2026 NFL draft.
