Former Miami defensive end McDougle arrested

April 24, 2003
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) -- Miami's Jerome McDougle, a probable first-round selection in the NFL draft, was charged Thursday with a misdemeanor of resisting arrest without violence.

McDougle was released on $500 bond, agent Drew Rosenhaus said. It was not immediately known when McDougle would appear in court.

Police said McDougle tried to stop the towing of a car registered to a former teammate they did not identify. The vehicle was being towed because of outstanding parking violations, said Coral Gables police spokesman Edward Claughton III. McDougle was ``uncooperative'' with university police, who asked him three times to leave, Claughton said.

``I regret that this incident happened today,'' McDougle said in a statement released through Rosenhaus. ``I apologize for any embarrassment that this may cause to my family, friends, the University of Miami and its fans.''

McDougle was an All-Big East selection in both 2001 and 2002, his only seasons at Miami, and a second-team All-American selection last year by The Associated Press.

The 6-foot-4, 271-pound defensive end had 114 tackles and 14 sacks during his Miami career.

So does anyone else see this as an opportunity for him to drop down to the #37 overall pick?

To quote Tango "I can dream can't I?"
