As the world of college football continues to change on a seemingly daily basis, Washington Huskies coach Jedd Fisch has never been shy about making his feelings known about where the sport is going.
One hotly debated topic that has consumed pundits and coaches alike is the issue of scheduling. Outside of conference play, there is no requirement for Power Four programs to play others, which has led to several programs scheduling three Group of Six or FCS-level opponents before the rigors of a conference schedule.
As the balance of power in the sport continues to shift towards the Big Ten and SEC, Fisch was quick to take to social media and voice his support for former Alabama head coach Nick Saban's opinion on the matter, which he shared at SEC Media Days.
"I actually think we should play 12 games against the Power Five, that's it," Saban said. "Because it's a business & people want to see those games."
"Agreed!" Fisch proclaimed on X (formerly Twitter).
During his time at Washington, the Huskies have played the annual Apple Cup against Washington State in the non-conference slate, and are set to host another Pac-12 team in 2026 when Utah State comes to town in September. However, with UW's former conference down to just eight schools after ten members left following the end of the 2023-24 season, it isn't widely considered to fall into the category that Saban is considering.
The Huskies currently have one nonconference slot open in the 2027, 2029, and 2030 seasons, with the only nonconference Power Four program on their schedule in that time being a home-and-home with the Tennessee Volunteers in 2029 and 2030.
