Coming into the 2026 season, the Washington Huskies are relying on a lot of youth to step up on both sides of the ball and support quarterback Demond Williams Jr.
However, that's exactly what Jedd Fisch is hoping for as he continues to stress building his team through the ranks of high school recruiting, which he refers to as the NFL draft, while he consistently compares the transfer portal to free agency.
In 2026, Fisch is looking to lean on the players he "drafted," led by a trio of 2025 Freshman All-Americans: offensive lineman John Mills, safety Rylon Dillard-Allen, and wide receiver Dezmen Roebuck, while other contributors from the 2025 class, like cornerback Dylan Robinson, linebacker Zaydrius Rainey-Sale, and wide receiver Chris Lawson, step into larger roles.
"Invest in your own team," Fisch said of his roster-building strategy in an interview with On3's Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman. "I've felt like the best football teams that I've been a part of draft really well...that's kind of how I was brought up."
Since his arrival, Washington has made significant investments to keep its top talent around, and that has given Fisch a lot of confidence in his young, yet talented roster heading into the 2026 season.
"We want to make our recruitment the most important, and we want to retain the best players on our team," he added. "If we lose a couple of guys, which we always will, we want to replace those guys. We're not going to go sit in the portal and beg a bunch of guys to come here that we don't really know."
