Jaylen Brown Still Pointing Fingers Over Celtics' Painful NBA Finals Loss originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Celtics have endured a lot of tough playoff exits and postseason scars during Jaylen Brown's career, losing four Eastern Conference Finals and an NBA Finals over the last decade. That made their 2024 championship even sweeter when they finally got over the hump.
However, Brown is apparently still bitter about the Celtics blowing the 2022 NBA Finals to the Golden State Warriors. Boston had a 2-1 series lead and led in the fourth quarter of Game 4 at TD Garden, but wasn't able to close out the game. The Warriors rallied to win the game and ultimately the series in six games, extending their dynasty for another year at the Celtics' expense.
During a Twitch livestream earlier this week, Brown revealed why he thinks Boston lost that series, taking a shot at former head coach Ime Udoka, who now coaches the Houston Rockets.

"We was in a drop coverage on Steph Curry, bro," Brown said. "He wild out. He wild out. We was in a drop coverage, though. We should've never been in a drop coverage."
To Brown's point, Curry torched the Celtics, averaging 31.2 points, 6.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game en route to his first NBA Finals MVP.
Perhaps if Boston had used a different scheme or adjusted, that wouldn't have happened. Curry's tough to defend regardless, but clearly drop coverage wasn't the answer.
Fortunately for Brown and the Celtics, they avenged their Finals loss two years later against the Dallas Mavericks, winning the franchise's first title since 2008. Udoka was no longer their coach by then, however, having been replaced by Joe Mazzulla.
