Quarterback and head coach synergy is pivotal to a college football team's success. Last season, Lincoln Riley and Jayden Maiava created some magic on the fly. The Trojans' offense was unstoppable at times, and Riley seemed to find the chemistry he once had with Caleb Williams. USC made progress in the Big Ten last year, but if the Trojans want to meet their standard, it will come from Jayden Maiava and Lincoln Riley. The coach seems to be more than content with his signal-caller heading into 2026.
In a recent tweet, USC Trojans reporter Kendell Hollowell highlighted a bold sentiment Lincoln Riley had for his starting quarterback at Big Ten media days. Here is what he had to say:
“Of all the guys that I've been fortunate enough to coach, I don't know that I've had anyone that has improved from day one to this point as much as Jayden has.”
Lincoln Riley has coached some of the best quarterbacks in the NFL today. So Lincoln Riley giving a compliment like this to Jayden Maiava speaks volumes to his trust in him and what he expects him to do this season. Maiava, last season in year 1 as a starter, commanded an explosive offense. He threw with confidence, and he tore up many defenses. This season, with more experience and even more confidence, he should be headed for an even bigger year. Having his coach's trust will lead him to that.
