The Washington Commanders have yet to play their first preseason game of the year, and they're already facing some adversity.

Laremy Tunsil is hurt and potentially out for a long time this season. And recently, Jayden Daniels was revealed to have informed LSU to no longer use his name, image, and likeness after cornerback commit DJ Pickett got to wear No. 5 for LSU.

Following the reporting late Wednesday night, and Thursday morning, Daniels broke his silence on the story on Instagram, revealing his thoughts on the matter and sharing how he's focused on the upcoming Commanders season.

"I have been locked in on training camp and that's been my number one focus," Daniels shared on Instagram. "I have a lot of gratitude for my time at LSU and I'm proud of what my teammates and I accomplished there. Obviously there are issues to be worked out between my team and LSU and my hope is that it will get done privately. My sole personal focus is on Commanders' football. I realize the business of football is unique and I trust this can all be resolved."

It's a long message from Daniels, but for Commanders fans, the most important takeaway is that he's expressing his focus for the upcoming season and is trying not to let the legal issues go through what they need to go through to be resolved.

After the reporting of this drama, it was fair for Commanders fans to be a little bit worried about Daniels heading into the 2026 season. But this commentary should help ease some of the fears about the 2024 draft pick entering his third NFL season.

This comment from Daniels came after Daniels' attorney sent a letter to LSU, as NFL insider Mike Garafolo reported, that said LSU "must immediately cease and desist from any further use, display, publication, distribution, promotion, commercialization, or other exploitation of Mr. Daniels' NIL in any manner or medium."

The drama continued as Matt Moscona of LouisianaSports.net reported the following: "Sources confirm Daniels' camp wants LSU to return its copy of the Heisman Trophy - something LSU has no intention of doing."

While Daniels is expressing his desire to focus on the 2026 NFL season for the Commanders, the legal battle between Daniels' camp and LSU will be ongoing.

Even though the Commanders QB will be focused on the regular season, it's going to be a storyline all year as reports and updates from this legal battle are revealed.

The Commanders need Daniels back to his rookie version of himself, as it's a tough NFC East division, and at his peak, Daniels could lead this team back to the playoffs in 2026. He should be able to get back to such a level, but this LSU NIL story will linger all season until something is resolved.
