Jaxson Dart’s hijinks don’t have a place in John Harbaugh’s playbook.
While at training camp on Wednesday, the second-year quarterback celebrated a touchdown and then promptly threw the ball at cornerback Greg Newsome II’s face mask — leaving his coach less than enthused.
“I think it’s a 15-yard penalty for taunting, so we backed up the extra point and had them do it again,” Harbaugh, 63, told reporters after practice in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va.
The first-year Giants coach then elaborated on his displeasure.

“I think he understands that for the game-winning extra point, we don’t want it to be a 50-yard extra point,” Harbaugh said. “Do you think I need to say anything [to Dart] in that case? It’s pretty clear-cut.”
Dart didn’t speak to reporters after camp, according to ESPN. But the extracurricular activities didn’t faze other players.
“Just them competing,” tight end Isaiah Likely said. “I mean, training camp, Day 2 of pads, getting tired, obviously in the red zone points are at stake. I mean, that’s the type of dog you want in a quarterback.”
He added, “And obviously, Newsome, I’ve been playing with him for quite a while. I know he’s a dog himself. So he’s not going to back down on nobody.”
For Dart, embracing extracurricular activities is seemingly part of his game.
The signal-caller, who has compared himself to Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, embraced the starting role during his rookie season, which culminated in a 4-13 record.
In the offseason, the outspoken Ole Miss standout introduced President Donald Trump at a rally to some of his teammates’ own displeasure, and spent plenty of downtime with his girlfriend Marissa Ayers.
In July while attending the World Cup final at his home stadium, then dubbed New York New Jersey Stadium, he shared his excitement with PEOPLE about the upcoming season.

“I think the biggest thing is just obviously getting all my boys back healthy is really exciting,” Dart said. “I love what we have as a team right now, and the culture that Coach Harbs is building.”
Dart added, “I’m just really excited to put it all together, and go out there on the field.”
