Get your popcorn ready, because the hype leading up to the Denver Broncos' game against the New York Giants unexpectedly picked up a lot of steam this week.
The buzz started on Wednesday when Broncos outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper said Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has been "feelin’ himself a little bit," running around and dancing with a chain on. Cooper was speaking to media members in Denver after winning the AFC's Defensive Player of the Week award, and his remarks about Dart quickly went viral on social media.
Giants fans believe Cooper's remarks were inflammatory, and they've been confidently harassing him on social media this week, seemingly leading teammate Nik Bonitto to tweet: "I've never seen such delusional fan base." (That tweet has since been deleted.)
The New York Post's Paul Schwartz told Dart about Cooper's comments, and this was the quarterback's response: “I think a lot of guys wear chains and dance when they score touchdowns. I appreciate him following my dance touchdowns.”
Giants pass rusher Abdul Carter tweeted "put ya 3D glasses on️" in response to Cooper's remarks.
Cooper seemingly responded to the hubbub with these tweets on Thursday evening:
Another New York pass rusher, Kayvon Thibodeaux, tweeted, "Hold on what I miss ???" Apparently after catching up, Thibodeaux responded:
Suddenly, a random matchup between a 4-2 squad from the AFC and a 2-4 team from the NFC has turned into must-watch television.
Sunday's game (2:05 p.m. MT) will be regionally televised on CBS (view the TV broadcast map). Denver is considered a favorite at home in Week 7.
