Denver Broncos outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper shared a series of messages on his Instagram story on Friday evening after being arrested on charges of domestic violence.
The first message Cooper shared was a picture of a Bible passage from Ephesians 4, which says "do not let your anger lead you into sin" in verse 26.
"I realize posting a bible. Quote right after something very serious happens does not just mean everything is okay," Cooper wrote on his next post.
"I apologize to my family and my friends and my community ... . And so many others," Cooper continued. "Sincerely. I apologize. This situation is not who I am."
Cooper and his girlfriend were both arrested after an incident late Thursday evening. She alleged that Cooper grabbed her by her neck and held her off the ground. The woman also told police that Cooper threw her multiple times. Cooper's account of the incident was much less severe. After an initial hearing last Friday morning, Cooper is scheduled to have a follow-up hearing on Monday.
