UFC main cards, 2025: 118-84-2
Blachowicz (29-11-1 MMA, 12-8-1 UFC) looks for his first victory since May 2022. Since that last win, the former light heavyweight champ walked out of a fight against Magomed Ankalaev with a split draw, and then dropped back-to-back fights against Alex Pereira and Carlos Ulberg. A five-fight winning streak from 2019-21 included winning the title and defending it once, but has since gone 1-3-1.
While Blachowicz could be on the way out, Guskov (18-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) is on the way up. He enters his first matchup against a former UFC champion on a four-fight winning streak, including a pair of wins this year over Billy Elekana and Nikia Krylov. All four of his UFC victories have come by stoppage no later than the second round.
Despite having a slew of lightweight action fights to choose from on the prelims, the UFC matchmakers decided to kick off the paid portion of the card with big boys, Jan Blachowicz and Bogdan Guskov.
Although this could certainly look like one of the many crossroads fights that have been booked for this card, it could also end up being a buy-low spot in hindsight should the former light heavyweight champion still have some gas left in the proverbial tank.
Guskov has been working hard to improve, training with everyone from Vatler Walker to the standouts stateside at Xtreme Couture MMA. However, he still hasn't exactly shown a deep or diverse game, which makes his win conditions feel limited.
A knockout loss for an aging Blachowicz wouldn't be the craziest outcome in the world, but I believe that the Polish fighter still has a few tricks left up his sleeve.
I'll pick Blachowicz to dust off his wrestling and jiu-jitsu skills in order to secure a submission win in Round 2.
The oddsmakers and the public slightly favor the former champ, listing Blachowicz -128 and Guskov +124 via FanDuel.
As the main card opener, Blachowicz and Guskov are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 10:10 p.m. ET. The fight broadcasts live on ESPN pay-per-view.
