A NEW FAT ALBERT?

Our sources at the combine tell us that, although LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell might still be headed for a top-five spot in the draft, he was looking a little JaMeaty at his official weigh-in on Friday.

"He looked more like Charles Barkley than a football player," said the source of Russell, who tipped the scales at 265 pounds.

He had "a lot of loose tissue in the midsection" and looked like he hasn't seen a weight room in months, with "very little muscle definition for such a big guy."

It shouldn't be a problem if he's drafted by the Browns, since they're sure to eventually put him on the staph infection diet.

You would think that he would be working out to be in shape for the combine .. each position that he slips could cost him millions ...

This is how I'm going to start describing myself. It's so much better than "fat."

Watching the wiegh in on NFL Network, Russell looked like he needs to lose a few pound while Quinn really looked ripped. Quinn looked like he really works out. Big difference between the two.

I remember reading last year that he competes with the linemen in the weight room and he is in fact a workout maniac...he is a big strong boy that is for sure.

The only time I ever got fat (or heavier than usual) was when I lived in New Orleans for three years. The Cajun food is sooo good and you tend to eat a lot of it! And, if your not eating Cajun, everything else is good too.

Russell established his lofty status on the strength of a highly impressive performance in leading LSU to victory against Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. But he also has grabbed the attention of NFL coaches and player-personnel types with, well, his strength -- specifically his rocket of a throwing arm.

Russell says he has launched passes as far as 83-84 yards, and no one who has watched him play would dispute that. Not only is his arm strong, it is accurate when it comes to the long ball. And Russell shows good accuracy on his short throws, too.

That is quite an arm .. but does having a strong arm translate into NFL material ..?? theres a lot more to being a QB than arm strength ...

My opinion on Russell has always been kept in check by what I heard about him from Chris Landry on foxsports. Landry was asked if he thought Russell would be worth a top 5 pick and Landry said absolutely not. He said that while Russell is gifted with a world of talent that he never has shown any desire to work to improve his game. Landry described him as lazy and uninterested in all facets of the game. This is why I was not surprised when they did the weigh in and he looked so soft.

I have watched him a lot in the SEC and he is fat. Sort of like that backup QB at Jacksonville (I think). He needs to drop about 24 lbs.

Just saw Jamarcus do an interview attempt at the combine. It was just short of brutal. He behaved like a sloth with vocal chords.

P.S. Saw it a 2nd time . It was not as bad as I thought.

Jamarcus Russell is a bucket of Rocks

Did he take the Wonderlic? Yeah he can throw the ball 80 yards but will he be able to learn the plays? Les Miles did not run a complicated pro offense at LSU. LSU has superior talent that beats other teams. Jamarcus is not going to have personnel with the overwhelming talent advantage they possessed at LSU. We'll see if he turns out better than Brady Quinn. What's happening to Quinn is similar to what happened to Leinart. Some people who call themselves experts will be pretty embarrassed about not taking Quinn if he drops in the draft. This is no Rick Mirer situation. Quinn is totally prepared for the NFL both from Charlie Weis and from his brother-in-law AJ Hawk.

I forget which game I was watching when they mentioned this, but they said Russell can throw 40 yards off his rear, 60 from his knees and 80+ on his feet.

Now, that's fine and well, but it doesn't make you an NFL QB. We'll see.

No QB is as ridiculously huge as the backup for the NY Giants. That guy is a monster.
