Becky Hammon wasn't the first or last person to say a small guard can't be the best player on an NBA championship team. But she certainly became the face of that theory back in 2023 after dismissing Jalen Brunson as a "1A dude" capable of leading the New York Knicks to a title.
So, when Brunson was asked about that very topic after clinching the title and finals MVP for the Knicks on Saturday, it wasn't a secret who he was being asked about: "What's your message for people saying that you're not a 1A guy?" the reporter asked.
But if you were expecting Brunson to pile on Hammon, you haven't been paying attention to the humble star over the years. He simply let the results speak for themselves.
"I didn't respond to them then. I'm damn sure not gonna respond to them now," Brunson said.
I think Hammon got the message loud and clear.
