If the Carolina Panthers weren't going to jump on Tetairoa McMillan in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft, then another organization certainly would have.

The Panthers pulled off a bit of a shocker a few nights ago, when they nabbed the University of Arizona receiver with the eighth overall pick of this year's selection process. But the choice may not have surprised the field—which according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated—included at least a handful of other teams that very much were in on McMillan.

Breer wrote the following in his post-draft takeaways from Monday:

And as for McMillan himself, Carolina got hot on the Arizona receiver late in the process, like a lot of other teams did (I’d heard the Jaguars, Raiders, Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers were all high on him, too). On tape, they saw a guy who was rare in how smooth he was for a player at 6' 4", and a guy who almost always caught the ball with his hands, away from his frame—to the point where they had trouble finding a single example of him catching it with his body.

Shortly after Carolina took the smooth All-American wideout on Thursday night, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that the Los Angeles Rams attempted to trade up from their 26th overall positioning—with the belief that they were targeting McMillan. The Dallas Cowboys, at least based off reactions from owner Jerry Jones and star pass rusher Micah Parsons, also seemed to have designs of snatching up the talented pass catcher.

Panthers president of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan had expressed interest in trading off the eight overall selection numerous times leading up to the draft. But it's clear that securing the popular McMillan outweighed the prospect of moving down the board.
