With training camp drawing closer for the Jacksonville Jaguars, we typically put together a 53-man roster prediction beforehand based on what we learned during offseason programs.
We will still be doing that, but the format will be different. Rather than cramming every position group into one article, we'll devote an entire article to each unit before compiling our predictions at the end.
So let's begin with the quarterbacks.
We'll get to why in a second, but I do expect Mullens to be the Jaguars' backup quarterback once again. That said, he's a veteran with a contract that Jacksonville can easily get out of, so he does not fall into the roster lock category for me.
Mullens didn't have the best showing during minicamp, but he does bring valuable experience to the backup quarterback role. In addition to being ready to step in, the backup provides an extra set of eyes and can be a sounding board for ideas for the starter on the practice field, on the sidelines, and in the meeting rooms.
Bradley and/or Aguilar may possess more upside, but at this stage in their young careers, they can't provide the same insights that Mullens can. To a large degree, that can only be gained through experience.
Last year, under Liam Coen, the Jaguars kept two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, while the third was on the practice squad.
Trevor Lawrence, Nick Mullens
For the reasons mentioned, there's not a lot of mystery when it comes to what the Jaguars' quarterback room will look like on the final roster.
