The Jacksonville Jaguars are going to take on some quality quarterbacks in 2026.
In Week 2, they'll take on Bo Nix of the Denver Broncos, and that will be followed by meetings with Drake Maye (New England Patriots), Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals) and Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles).
But the best QB on Jacksonville's schedule might be a man named Jackson.
This is, of course, Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.
If Jackson retired today, he'd have a good argument to be a Hall of Famer. He's been a first-team All-Pro three times and has twice been the league's MVP, one of 11 players in history to win the award more than once. The fact that Jackson has done all of this while still being in his 20s (he won't turn 30 until January) is concerning for the rest of the league.
Jackson and the Ravens are who the Jaguars have to deal with in Week 9, in what will be their eighth game of the season.
That's difficult enough, but it's compounded by the fact that the Jags will be taking on Jackson and the Ravens on the road in primetime on Thursday Night Football.
This will be Baltimore's first primetime home game of the post-John Harbaugh era. After 18 seasons on the job, the Ravens fired Harbaugh in January and replaced him with a guy who, ironically enough, has ties to the Harbaugh family.
Jesse Minter helped Jim Harbaugh win a national championship at Michigan two years ago, and since then, he has established himself as a top defensive mind with the Los Angeles Chargers, where he was a coordinator.
Now, the 43-year-old is getting his first head coaching job, and it's a big one.
A lot of new coaches don't enter their new jobs with division title expectations. For instance, nobody is expecting Mike LaFleur to lead the Arizona Cardinals to an NFC West title right away, nor is anybody expecting Todd Monken to lead the Cleveland Browns to glory.
But as long as Jackson is in Baltimore, expectations for the Ravens will be high, and the context that Minter is replacing a guy with a Hall of Fame resume will only add to the pressure.
Both the Jaguars and Ravens are entering the season with division title aspirations, so as far as Thursday Night matchups go, this is one fans won't want to miss and could have big-time postseason implications.
