Lamar Jackson makes definitive statement on long-term future with Ravens originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

One of the big-ticket items for the Baltimore Ravens to get done this offseason was Lamar Jackson's contract.

An extension would have reduced his cap hit so the franchise could then go after free agents, but it didn't happen, and Baltimore just restructured his deal. A short-term fix.

In 2027, Lamar has a cap hit of $84 million, one that isn't feasible to keep, so the Ravens and Jackson will need to come to an agreement again, hopefully for the fans, resulting in a long-term deal.

The fact that it hasn't happened yet is a little concerning for some, but does Lamar want to be in Baltimore long-term?

"Absolutely. I love the Ravens," Jackson said. "I love this organization. I love this city. This is the team that drafted me. Got a lot of love for me. I've got a lot of love for the city and this team as well. Like I told you, the reconstruction is done. Cool with that. But I love Baltimore. Everybody should know that by now."

Will Lamar get long-term deal?

I find it hard to believe that the Ravens won't sort something out with a two-time MVP winner who is in the prime of his career.

Could you imagine the backlash if the Ravens and Jackson parted ways next offseason? That would send shockwaves through the NFL.

With Lamar wanting to remain a Raven, and Baltimore wanting him to stay, it feels that there is only one conclusion, and that's a long-term deal. But money makes things interesting.

Will Jackson get a market-setting contract? I get the sense that will be what it takes, but whether Baltimore is willing to do that sort of deal, right now, is unknown.
